Clarion 120 Outdoors is not really a thing. It is an idea, a concept, if you will. It started like this. Several times, way back in the summer of 2019, while fishing with my good friend Chris DePaula, retired sales executive, outdoor writer, and muskie and steelhead addict, he talked about starting a podcast in his recent retirement. Eventually he and his pal, Don Clowes, started a podcast they call 120 Outdoors. The idea is that there are many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors within 2 hours of home. That is 120 minutes, or roughly 120 miles from your home, no matter where you live. Don and Chris live in the Youngstown, Ohio area. Their 120 extends to Chautauqua, New York, where these conversations took place. It happens that Chautauqua is also within the Clarion 120, my 120. So with their blessing, I started the Clarion 120 Outdoors blog.
Chris and Don focus on hunting and fishing in their Ohio 120. I am going to focus on the Clarion 120. That starts with hunting and fishing for me, but it must also include hiking, camping, and boating of various types. The Clarion River and its surrounding hills offer countless opportunities to enjoy the magnificence of the outdoors.
So we will explore the opportunities within the Clarion 120. We will talk about how to discover them, how to plan for them. We will tell a story from time to time about our experiences, and we will tell you about the real outdoors people of our area. Once in a while you may find some DIY tips for the outdoors. Occasionally, we will tell you about important issues that impact our ability to enjoy our 120 or an event that is upcoming. We might even get a fishing or hunting report or two along the way.
I keep saying we and I know that I am just a me. But, I will be inviting guest bloggers in from time to time, just to keep things fresh. Oh, and because a lot of people know things about the Clarion 120 that I do not.
